This 6.5 - scale earthquake has hit a region of scattered populations, 200 miles [200 km] northwest of the city of Guangwan in Sichuan province, the U.S. Geological Survey has announced. The hit region is close to a tourist destination.
Sichuan's government said that nearly 100 tourists had been blocked by the landslide after the first earthquake.
More than 31,500 tourists have been evacuated from the earthquake area, Chinese official news agency Xinhua has reported.
The fire service in Sichuan has reported that a hotel entrance area has been destroyed, blocking several people, but more than 2,800 people have been evacuated safely from the building.
