Journalists from the region call for clarification of Ollur's attack

Over 130 journalists from Slovenia, Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Kosovo have been solidised with journalist Parim Oluri, who was attacked on the evening of 16 August before his residence. “

Over 130 journalists from Slovenia, Macedonia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Kosovo have been solidised with journalist Parim Oluri, who was attacked on the evening of 16 August before his residence.

“We, journalists from many countries in the region, gathered in an informal network of journalists, strongly condemn the attack on our colleague and one of the most prominent investigative journalists in Kosovo, and ask the authorities for the immediate dawning of the leaders of this work”, said in response.

Oluri was attacked on Wednesday, August 16, before his residence about ten o'clock in the evening as he returned from town with his fiancée. According to Ollur's testimony, he was attacked by three unidentified persons who caused him slight injuries. He and his fiancée, who had all advanced during the attack, received medical attention.

The attack on Parim Ollyr came a day after it had published an opinion in the electronic newspaper Inseder (insander.com), which blames former KLA commanders for KLA's scathing of this organisation through involvement in dirty businesses.

Oluri in his public letter, titled “if Adam Jashar were alive and he was a corrupt millionaire” he, through satire, criticised the former commanders of the Kosovo Liberation Army, illegally enriched after the war.

Oluri, for covering various topics such as the topic of corruption, has often been the target of verbal attacks and threats, and it was only a matter of time when they would be turned into physical threats.

“Recall that it was the Portal of Ollur, which last year uncovered one of the biggest scandals concerning Kosovo authorities, publishing the records of the parliamentary group head's phone conversations with PDK, Adem Grabovci. Grabovci soon followed financial pressures on the electronic newspaper, which caused him to lose because of the decline in the number of advertising on their page”, it is further said in response.

Oluri and his colleague and Inseder's cofounder Wehbi Kaitazi began Insider in 2016. Oluri was editor of the newspaper Life in Kosovo, part of BIRN in Pristina and worked in Time Ditore, and he and Cateazi among them have five “Gazetar of the Year” from the Association of Kosovo Journalists (AGK).

“We call on the ruling politicians not to create a social climate in which violence against journalists is considered normal, as well as competent authorities to find and punish perpetrators and thus send a clear message that violence against political opponents is unacceptable”, it is further said.

We remind you that in Kosovo only until October 2016, according to data from the Kosovo Journalists' Association, there are 12 cases of attacks and threats against journalists because of their work.

“We, the controversial journalists we stand together with our colleague Parim Olluler and ask the authorities and institutions to, in addition to the verbal condemnation of the attackers' actions, bring the attackers to justice in order to allow journalists to continue doing their job in the interests of the public”, end the response.
