On Monday, in Paris, the summit of Europe and Africa was held with the focus of illegal migration. The summit was aimed at finding possible solutions to illegal migration.
The leaders of France, Germany, Italy and Spain agreed on a new policy of providing asylum and announced the plan for “defence commissions” in African countries, in co-operation with UN refugee and migration agencies.
European leaders agreed to help African countries through the application of new migration policies and various grants.
The establishment of two special agencies at Niger and Cad, to pre-check the legitimacy of asylum research, is part of the project.
The pre-azili centres will receive European financing, a French diplomat reports.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said European countries should clearly determine which asylum seekers have legitimate humanitarian needs and are fleeing poverty.
The Chancellor added further and revised the Dublin Convention for asylum.
Merkel: Europe must urgently review its asylum system, which requires immigrants to seek refugee status in the first place they reach. This has imposed a huge burden on Greece and Italy, where more immigrants have been hit most in recent years.
Even the chaotic situation in Libya was an important part of Monday's meetings, as more support was sought to combat trafficking in migrants and to monitor Libya's southern border.
Meanwhile, interior ministers from Libya, Chad, Niger and Mali, who met on Monday with Italy's interior minister in Rome, said the Paris summit agenda “could constitute the start of a new relationship between Europe and Africa”.
