Commissioner for European Culture Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn will travel towards Durres on Saturday 26 August to participate in the informal meeting of prime ministers of six Western Balkan countries.
The focus of the meeting will be to promote the implementation of commitments taken at the Trieste Summit in July 2017, especially of the action plan for deepening regional economic integration.
The Regional Economic Zone, located at the Trieste Summit, will provide new opportunities for both businesses and citizens, and will strengthen development and jobs, writes the Shekulli newspaper.
Other concrete steps include mutual recognition of professional qualifications, identification and elimination of bureaucracy and regulatory barriers that hinder trade and investment in the region by creating a regional dialogue on digital transformation, as well as opening negotiations on a mechanism for resolving disputes.
The European Commission strongly supports the regional co-operation of the Western Balkans as an integral part of its EU membership perspective, through significant investments in the interconnection of infrastructure, economies and people with the region itself, as well as between the Western Balkans region and the European Union.
