Citizens complain about water quality, so they're responding from the pipe

Regional Waterwater spokeswoman “Pristina”, Arberie Zogiani, in a promotion for Radio Free Europe, says water is drinking and according to international standards.

“As far as the quality of water we distribute, full responsibility guarantees you as Regional Water, for the good quality of drinking water. We have two labs where drinking water tests are constantly done, chemical lab and bacterology, we have different points in the city, and the entire area that samples are taken every day to do tests, and each time they come up with positive results”, Zogiani points out.

Long ago, media in Kosovo had reported on suspicious qualities of drinking water and those ambalized. These reports had raised concerns even among Kosovo citizens.

Some citizens surveyed by Radio Free Europe say they are not quite sure of the quality of water they come from the company from which they are supplied.

Some of them already use it, not for drinks, but only for other things and say that they prefer to buy water and drink.

Kreshnik Sinani, a citizen of Pristina, says:

We usually buy the water and drink, because the quality of the water that comes from the water supply, we don't trust much, but even the bottled water that we buy I don't think is very quality, but it's probably cleaner than that public”.

While Albanian, a citizen from Pristina, says they buy water but do not suspect the quality of water coming from the water supply.

We buy water in our family, we hear that we should not drink water from the water supply, but buy it, but I think water from the water supply is good. We've been drinking that water for the last few years, now we've started to buy it, maybe we're thinking it's better”, she says.

Even the National Institute of Public Health, a monitoring for Kosovo's drinking water in the past month, had confirmed that laboratory data for chemical parameters resulted within advance standards with regulations on water quality for drink.

The National Public Health Institute assures Kosovo citizens that this institute has permanent control of water quality for drink, both from the central supply systems and the ambalized water and there is no room for concern”, says a citizen report that the institute had made.

This institute has made it known that it will continue with monitoring water quality for drinks according to legal competencies in force, with high professional responsibility. However, they have sought from relevant organs to advance and expand the spectrum of laboratory analysis of water, air and food in the country.

According to a publication of the Kosovo Statistics Agency, long ago, about 70 percent of the population is supplied with water through public systems, while about 29 percent are supplied by personal systems. At the same time, 0.7 percent of citizens have no water supply services available.
