A powerful storm has penetrated southern China, leaving 12 people dead and hundreds injured.
Typhoon Hato struck near the town of Zhuhai in the province of Guangdong, bringing strong winds and rains. Hong Kong gave the typhoon warning signal at 10, the highest level.
The storm caused widespread floods and brought disaster. Chinese state media said around 27,000 people on the continent were evacuated
. Authorities have issued reports of landslides, floods and other geologic disasters, the Xinhua news agency reports.
Hong Kong's meteorological authority said Hato had the maximum smell of up to 175 miles per hour.
