Macedonia's prime minister, Zoran Zaev, made known today that the Ministry of Justice is preparing the draft law on the use of languages, which envisions advancing the use of Albanian.
Zaev said nobody loses with this law and everyone has the right to feel Macedonia as their own. One of the main conditions of Albanian parties to participate in the ruling coalition was precisely the widespread use or officialisation of the Albanian language in this country. Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev confirmed on Wednesday that the language law is being prepared at the Ministry of Justice and that the government expects to approve it before local elections in autumn.
That's how the bill has been appointed because of the Albanian language, which doesn't really figure in Macedonia's constitution as such, but as language which is spoken by at least 20 per cent of the population of a municipality or on a country scale. Zaev said that with the adoption of this law, neither Macedonian nor Albanian citizens lost votes.
He added that everyone has the right to equality in society and that he feels Macedonia as his own. We don't make calculations, we don't have prejudices, we make a change of the law on language use soon, Prime Minister Zaev stressed,
