A powerful 6.7 magnitude earthquake has killed at least two people on the Greek island of Kos and injured another 200 in Greek and Turkish coastal cities, reports The Guardian.
The quake struck near top tourist destinations around the Aegean Sea in the early hours Friday, Greek and Turkish officials said.
At least 200 people have been injured, officials said, over 120 on the island of Kos and 70 in Greece.
The US hierology service (USGS) that monitors earthquakes said it was a very shallow earthquake, just 10km or 6.2 miles below the seabed of the southwestern coastal town of Marmaris in the Mugla province.
The episode was 10km south of the Turkish Bodurimi resort and 16km northeast of the Greek island of Kos.
Turkish towns of Bodrum and Datca, Kos Island, are all top tourist destination.
The biggest consequences were on the island of Kos, where waves caused by the quake caused a tsunami that destroyed the coast and flooded hotels.
