Lezha police arrested two minors and searched for a third for stealing a bag, but tourists complain that petty thefts on the beach have become a real nightmare.
Two 14-year-olds were arrested on July 1st by Lezha police as a fellow worker was declared in the search after denouncing a Kosovo vacationer for stealing the bag.
Police announced in a press release that the same minors are suspected of two other criminal acts taking place in recent weeks.
They are suspected of stealing a gold necklace from a residential woman in Lezha on 21 June, while on 26 June they have stolen another vacationer from Kosovo, 2 mobile phones and 100 euros. One of the minors was found in an Ekol brand sports pistol with a nine - bullet clip gun used to cause noise.
Meanwhile, some vacationers with whom BIRN spoke show that petty thefts of this nature have become a constant concern on the beach. According to vacationers, the cases are numerous when they lose their bags or valuable items during their stay on the beach or when they find broken car windows or beach houses.
I am a vacationer from Kosovo. For at least five years, I have been attending St. But stealing here has become a problem. Nearly every day, thieves are operating here every hour of the day, so we must be careful ourselves,” said a citizen from Kosovo who refused to comment by name.
I'm on vacation here in Stryn, and three nights ago they broke my little car window and took the 100 euros I had inside. I did not report that I was convinced that I could not find anything. The police have to act and be more present mostly at night, since at that time thieves operate more” said another vacationer.
Lezha Police spokeswoman Alda Prelaj told BIRN that police are informed of the problem and that she has added patrols throughout the tourist area while urging citizens not to quit stealing without reporting if they turn to rule forces.
