A 19-year-old in Fier was thrown off the eighth floor of a palace, and the reasons are still a mystery. A teenager in Puka got herself 300 feet from home, and a 20-year-old girl in Fieri was poisoned with phostoksia after separating himself from his girlfriend. In all cases, people who went to the extreme are at an early age. For psychologists, the reasons are linked to social networks, unemployment, and difficult economic conditions.
Arlinda Selmani, counseling psychologist: These age groups are first in the summer, so there's no agenda, we're saying, like school and their obligations. The only rich social and cultural life is just social media. In Albania, people find it very difficult to ask for help to say that it is also specialized in field experts.
For psychiatrists, mental health problems should be considered pathology, whether for anxiety depression or other disorder.
Ayanna Rreli: Suicide is a complexity of mental illness. So in this logic, if we precede and take steps from health education to make it clear that mental illness is like any other disease, we need to get caught as soon as possible.
But how can such cases be prevented? At this point psychologists say the media should filter the information it provides with too much.
Arlinda Selmani, counseling psychologist: Even though presented by the visual media, they manage to re-represent more details from the most social media, by giving many details, and that's unfortunately pushing someone who's in that kind of attempt to rethink it.
It is recommended that people who suffer from anxiety and depression should talk to their family but also to their family doctor.
Ayanna Rreli: Often people go to the wrong doctors, percentages of cases that go to the pharmacy, and ask for the pharmacist's help to be treated. Never should medication be taken that is specifically the gardening of a psychiatrist.
Albania does not have official statistics in terms of such serious cases, but O BSH refers to studies, on average, 200-230 suicides per year.
