However, accepting the application does not mean automatic membership, while Serbia has already lobbied in many states that such a thing is not allowed to happen.
Interpol is one of four organisations in which Kosovo has not been able to join, writes Blitci Serb. Thanks to Serbia's diplomatic activities and the assistance of specific countries mainly Russia, Kosovo has failed to become a member of the UN, Council of Europe, nor W NESTO, broadcast news.net.
Kosovo Interior Minister Skender Hyseni officially announced that Interpol has accepted official Pristina's request, but the path to membership could be too long. Since 2010, Kosovo has been trying to become part of Interpol, and the last time their demand has been removed from the agenda has been in late May in Lyons.
Serbia has lobbied among member states to undermine Kosovo's membership in Interpol by forming a working group consisting of representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Interior Ministry and the Office for Kosovo.
Sources of this newspaper by the Serbian MPB say they are doing their best to prevent Kosovo's entry into Interpol.
“Even if the Kosovo issue to join Interpol will be part of the agenda in Beijing, it does not mean it will become part of the organisation”.
The two-thirds majority will need to vote on Kosovo's membership in this organisation.
Besides Russia and China, Kosovo does not support India, Brazil, Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina either.
Serbia's argument is that Pristina is trying to enter Interpol represented by UNMIK, and in any case the position of Kosovo is not good.
According to newspaper information, Kosovo's membership in the World Customs Organisation will be discussed in December, and the possibility of its membership in UNESCO discussed in the autumn is not ruled out./Lajmi.net/
