The invitation to take part in Paris on Sunday in the commemoration of Vel d'Hiv's passive arrests is a very, very strong gesture, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during this ceremony in the arms of French President Emmanuel Macron.
The gathering of Vel d'Hiv was an action led by the Nazis for the mass arrest of Paris Jews that was carried out in co-operation with French police and since President Jacques Chirac in July 1995, all French presidents have recognised France's responsibility in the move.
This invitation to remember together hand in hand is a very, very strong gesture. This relates to the ancient and profound friendship between France and Israel”, Netanyahu stated that he held his speech in French.
This is the first time an Israeli government chief has participated in this commemoration.
“Juve, Mr. President, France, and all the French people, from the bottom of my heart, thank you,”, he continued, from the ceremony tribuna, which was organized in the country where 13 thousand and 152 Jews gathered during World War II on July 16 and 17, 1942.
