Germany, Great Britain, the US and Canada currently lead four multi-nationalist military groups in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
Their discussion was decided by NATO leaders during a summit in Warsaw in July 2016, under a greater collective protection tightened following Russia's annexing the Crimea and the offensive of separatist prorus rebels east of Ukraine in 2014.
“These battalions demonstrate a direct response to Russia's aggressive actions, including provocative military activities on the outskirts of NATO territory, which significantly exacerbated stability and security, increased in unpredictableness and changed the security circle”, highlighted in a joint statement Great Britain, the US, Canada and Germany, supporting leadership staff as well as Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, host countries.
At last year's NATO summit in Warsaw, the alliance decided to send forces to border countries with Russia and Belarus.
A significant portion of NATO troops have arrived in Lithuania near the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, reports <x0AP”.
More than 100 Belgian soldiers and hundreds of military vehicles occur in Klaipeda, which is about 40 miles [60 km] from Kaliningrad, where Russia has a sea base and a wide missile system.
