JUSO wants to drop questioning for the Swiss passport

As they have been described, they are not like interviews but rather with interrogations. The case of Turkish Funda Yilmaz and German M.M., who, despite the perfect level of integration in Switzerland, have been denied demand for naturalisation, has sparked a heated debate in Swiss opinion. What has particularly exasperated this opinion has been “the interview” which is subject to candidates for Swiss passport. This, for many, is excessive and more like a “questioning”.

“As they are described, they are not like interviews but rather with interrogation. Therefore, they should immediately be detained”, requesting Tamara Funicillo, head of Switzerland's new Socialists (JUSO), writes 20minute.ch. “Here, there are a small number of people who have a big role in the future of candidates for naturalisation and there are no common criteria for interviews. This thing then opens the doors to arbitrariity side and arm”, broadcasts albinfo.ch. Thus, it holds that decisions in the two recently announced cases are unacceptable. It could be here that someone, just starting with his trick, could not be able to naturalize”.

Hence, when someone has met the criteria such as the length of his stay in Switzerland, the good image, and the knowledge of the language, he must be naturalized without the need for any complementary conversation, Funicillo thinks. “Who feels himself in Switzerland as at home to himself must also have the right to participate in political life, that is a fundamental democratic right. And this shouldn't be about good success on the exam, but it should be worth everybody.

In contrast, meanwhile, the National MP from SVP, Barbara Steinemann, broadcasts albinfo.ch. It is fair of the municipality to assess rigorously who is being naturalized”, she says. While warning of interview removal, she adds: “When you can't get to know the candidates personally, you don't want to know who you're naturalizing”. /Okinfo. ch
