Great Britain plans to apply stricter penalties for those who attack acid, Interior Minister Amber Rudd has said.
In the last month, acid attacks have been repeated in London. Last week, five acid attacks occurred within 90 minutes east of London, leaving many people with burns in their faces. Ruud has expressed concerns about reports that acid and other substances are being used as weapons for attacks.
“We must respond to these attacks”, she has said.
This will include reviewing the existing law, access to these harmful substances as well as the support offered to victims”, Rudd added.
It has proposed that the law may be revised in order for acid and other similar substances to be classified as dangerous weapons. The government will also work with vendors to create restrictions about selling acid and similar substances.
