These alarming figures point to a serious problem in society that abandons their children for various personal reasons.
A report by the AKS is said to have been abandoned from 2009 to 2016 by 395 children, writes Indexline.
In the first few months of 2017 alone, however, disturbing numbers of abandonment have been recorded where 28 children have been abandoned at the University Clinical Centre in Pristina.
All these statistics gave us the figure 423 children for eight and a half years.
In a report on the number of children abandoned in 2009-2016, 41 children were abandoned in 2016.
Although according to the table, the drop in dropout from 2009, yet the 42 abandoned children figure is high.
Since in 2009, the number of abandonments has been 66, this number has suffered decline over the years, where in 2013 it has dropped to 52, and now it is 41.

According to an analysis that the Coalition of NGOs for Children's Protection in Kosovo KOMF has worked on protecting abandoned children in Kosovo at the age of 0-3, the main problem with regard to abandoned children lies in delays for procedures on resolving their status.
Donjeta Kelmendi, director of the KMF on Indexline, has told of the reasons for this delay.
The reason for delays in resolving child status or adopting it in some cases is also related to health conditions, limited capacity, child age, or because of the implications/family circumstances of the abandoned child” has been expressed.
Kelmendi has shown further that this analysis has shown a serious lack of work in preventing abandonment.

Some of the KSF recommendations are that institutions co-operate together in preventing abandonedness, creating financial and social conditions to self-friendly mothers, providing existing hospital consultants from MSG, developing family housing in Kosovo from municipalities, increasing human resources with professional staff and so on.
