A group of homosexual deputies from the conservative parties had long demanded that gay and lesbian marriage be allowed. Yes Chancellor Merkel was against that. In 2013 it was expressed during the election campaign that it is difficult to accept recognition of the partnership between a homosexual couple as equal to the marriage of a man and woman.
According to the DW, the marriage of homosexuals and lesbians is expected to become soon available in Germany because the Greens have agreed to this since 2005, The SPD and Mayta expressed pro in 2011 and the FDP in 2012.
Despite Chancellor Merkel's motives for taking this step because she will retain power, the LGBT community in Germany is happy and this is good news for them, media from Berlin report.
