German media: Rama victory, opportunities for Balkans

Elections in Albania and results released from ballot boxes have found space in the German media, where in many of them the Socialists' victory is seen as “an opportunity for the region”. The Swiss newspaper “Neue Zurcher Zeitung” analyses Prime Minister Edi Rama.

“Tendence that Rama has to break the taboo could give new Balkan impulses. Edi Rama points to the fact that he perceives himself as an unconformist and this is not a gesture of fraud, because Rama is not only a successful politician, but an artist... when it comes to politics, Rama is a craftsman. He makes coalitions, removes opponents from the party, and polishs his public image. Rama has charisma as a speaker, charm, and batats enable him to endure his great ego”, writes NZZ.

The newspaper also pays attention to regional policy. Rama and Vucic, she says, “compete for the attention of Chancellor Angela Merkel.

“Dinamica between Rama and Vucic can also be used constructively... A good relationship between Tirana and Belgrade could help resume stalled talks with Serbia and Kosovo. Rama's victory in that sense is not an option only for Albania”, the Swiss newspaper further writes.

“Berliner Zeitung”, under the title “A painter wins the elections in Albania” points out that “not only Albania so long isolated is exotic for Europeans, but even Edi Rama, old and new prime minister, may be called extravagant, perhaps excent”.

After highlighting Rama's career not only as a basketball player, but also as mayor of Tirana, “Berliner Zeitung” highlights that “Rama must now show that it can lead the 2.9 million residents of the Albanian state towards better prosperity and social justice”.

“Suddeutsche Zeitung” pays attention to developments in Albania, as well as to the newspaper “Tageszeitung” underscores that “Prime Minister Edi Rama with the Socialist Party would win parliamentary elections, this was envisioned in the past weeks, but that he would win the absolute majority, this is a surprise”, writes Top Channel.
