Beqaj: National elections to impact local elections

Kosovo citizens on October 22nd will once again address the ballot boxes. However, this time in elections for local self - government bodies. But the same citizens' punishment for political parties is expected, as in the June 11th general parliamentary elections.

According to political analyst Behlul Beqaj, national elections will affect both local elections for good and for failure.

“If qualified, quantitative and competent frameworks are selected, the appropriate programs that interested citizens may recognize. I hope such orientation will harm even more political parties and party leaders that do not operate in the framework of the age”, analyst Beqaj has finally said.

While, analyst Imer Mushkolaj says citizens' punishment depends on who the political parties' candidates will be in the municipalities. And for the bookies, it says that citizens don't vote that easily anymore.

The local elections are more specific and the results of the national elections cannot be “translated” into similar numbers for local ones. Much depends on who the political parties' candidates for municipalities will be. The candidates' names and integrity will be very important in judging citizens. But inertia, the trend of change will continue that is certain. The raids have already seriously collapsed and citizens no longer give the votes that easily. Therefore, political parties should offer clear and practical programmes, feasible programmes if they want to win in local elections”, Mushkolaj has said in his response to Indexline.

By contrast, in support of Article 4 of Law No. 03,L072 for Local Elections, Article 6 of Law No. 03,L094 for the president of the Republic of Kosovo, after consulting with political parties, President Thaci has made the decision that local elections be held on October 22, 2017.

The president has also instructed the Central Election Commission to undertake all necessary actions for organising and holding local elections, in line with its decision and legislation in effect. /Indesksonline/L. TH
