In a Twitter post, Mr. Trump said the vote proved that the world “requires peace, not death”. The US-designed resolution includes measures to curb North Korean oil imports by 90%.
China and Russia, the main trade partners of Pyongyang, voted in favour of the resolution.
North Korea is already subject to a series of sanctions by the US, UN and EU.
