Some dead and many injured are reported after a high-speed train “Amtrak” has emerged from the tracks in the middle of its journey between Seattle and Portland.
The 501 train was heading south, when it suddenly pulled off track at a crossroad across the bridge, at Dupont, Washington, about 7am 40am, with the local one falling over another car.
The company “Amtrak” confirmed that one of its trains was involved in the incident, but did not provide further details. This was the first day of the new high-speed service “Casscade”.
“We are aware of the incident by the 501 train of our company”, the operator of this line wrote in “Twitter”. We'll let you know as soon as possible after we secure details”.
Just before the bridge, there is a sharp bend of the bag, and it is believed that the train was moving at a speed of about 8 miles [128 km] an hour.
There were 70 passengers aboard the train, while its capacity is 250. Law enforcement officials said there are victims, but do not give the figures at the moment.
Emergency teams went to the scene.
