KFOR Commander General Salvatore Couc said these military forces remain the only army in Kosovo, which ensures peace.
Kosovo's “Security Forces are not armed forces, they react in case of natural disasters. They are well trained for this, but if Kosovo institutions want to transform into the military, it is a process which, even according to NATO Secretary General, must be carried out in line with the Constitution”, Couc told the Serbian newspaper Vecernje Novosti, Telegrafi conveyed.
“If Pristina decides to take further steps in the process of transforming the Security Force into Armed Forces, then NATO's stance on KFOR “should be reviewed, the KFOR commander said, adding that there is no other mission in Kosovo now to ensure security.
“However, future decisions on our commitment will be drawn from NATO's political body, as well as the 28 countries that make up the KFOR mission”, Couc said.
He added that KFOR is a successful mission, whose work is not related to deadlines, but to results.
KFOR's “mandate is based on Resolution 1244, and the mission continues to support a peaceful, stable and multiethnic Kosovo”, Cuocci said.
