Protesters have burned pictures of President Donald Trump in the town of Gaza today, and Palestinian officials have warned of breaking ties with the US and ending security co-operation with Israel following the official recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.
“Jerusalem is the issue of Palestinian people and the cause for the country”, Hamaz leader Ismail Haniya said.
According to the U.S. decision on the recognition of Jerusalem, the capital of Israel will cause terrible transformations throughout the region.
Protests have erupted in Gaza, where hundreds of citizens have burned American flags and Trump's posts.
The Hamaz organisation and Islamic Jihad have called on Arab leaders to sever relations with the US and withdraw from peace talks with Israel.
“If Jerusalem will be the capital of Israel, then we are on track to resolve a single state”, said Ziad Abu Zayad, former Palestinian minister on Jerusalem issues, writes the NY Times.
