A Catholic priest who abused boys at a London school in the '70s and '80s has been sentenced to prison for 18 years.
Lawrence Soper, 74, had fled to Kosovo with 182,000 pounds from the Vatican Bank in an attempt to avoid prosecution for the abuses he had performed with boys at the independent St Benedict School, in Ealing, where he was also legalizing, reports “caplanefield”.
He was extradited to face 19 counts of improper and serious sexual attacks on 10 former students.
Soper is the fourth man convicted of sexual harassment at school.
During the proclamation of the verdict, Judge Anthony Bate said Soper's move was “the most terrible violation of faith” and that “has overturned the rules of the Benedictic order and the teachings of the Catholic Church”.
He said the life of former abat and director would now be “kept in shadow by the catalog proved by shameful abusers”
