Patriarchal Thinking Challengers

They have announced several meetings in the first month of this year that they would agree to the realisation of a march in Prizren on international women's day. But since that parade of life on the eighth day of the third month on the main streets of the city, they have stopped. Their walk [...]
Their safe walk has continued with the realisation of numerous reforms, bringing to focus the need for the challenge of patriarchal thinking in the city's public disk and the search for the equal contribution of women and men to the city's social, economic and political life.
So women and girls collected under the initiative “FEMactiv” has made the topic of feminism and gender equality present in Prizren's public life.
“FEMEMER” entered the cafes. There are those who say the feminists are here. This fact is enough to start to prove that the change started”, said Dafina Alishan, adviser to Prizren's KK and one of the activists in “FEMEMAL”.
All the women and girls who joined us right now in our move have come with their own will to change patriarchal thinking in the city and strengthen the role of women. We believe that almost every woman faces numerous problems just because she is a woman, so this initiative too is an opportunity for women and girls to meet and talk about their common concerns and find solutions. The more this initiative aims not only for women but also for men to be part of this cause -- all those who believe in an equal society” -- have stressed it.
Movement Against Men's Dominating
But like any other movement in the world, even “FEMER” has had challenges that continue to be present. “That's all that “FEMEMER” is the first feminist movement in Prizren to try to fight the patriarchal system, which has been dominant for centuries. That's why changes won't happen overnight. We are determined to work in this regard, even though major changes will take time. ”- are expressed.
They once admit that at first there was a belief among us that a change could be made. This distrust may have manifested itself correctly, since we are talking about a movement that is first in the city and much more with a society that is almost entirely dominated by men. But our faith has been restored, especially after our first performance on March 8,”, they said.
“intention FEMEMI” is to fight and challenge patriarchal thinking in the city's public and political discourse. In a city where the whole public language is created and shaped by men, “FEMEMER” aims at further growth, becoming a greater movement of the city. As view of “FEMEMI” is to ensure equal contributions of women and men to the city's social, economic and political life.
The next event was performance: “contrata”, which was organised on 1 May, where “FEMEMER” has distributed extinguishing contracts to passersby to show violations of workers, lack of workplace security, illegal evacuations, and many different issues. While July 8th in Prizren, public performance was organised:”Borrat ironosin”, where the challenge of traditional gender roles was targeted through this activity, as housework is seen as duty only to women.
In addition to the events mentioned, “FEMactiv” during 2017 has also published numerous reactions to violations and violence against women in Kosovo.
Landing women in rural areas
According to them, there is still much work to be done to ensure the equal contribution of women to public and political affairs in the city. Our motivation is that the movement every day is growing, people are joining us. Only this fact indicates that the change has only begun”, these activists have expressed themselves.
Nevertheless, they acknowledge that they have not yet had any activity in rural areas, where perhaps the need is even greater to improve the role of women in society. Even though during 2017 one of our goals has been to lie down in rural areas, we believe that this will remain our goal for 2018, and we believe that we will work harder on this direction”, they have stressed.
Beyond this “FEMactiv” considers next year to organise more public performance, still raising issues of discrimination against women. Our “targets will extend to the rural part, where we will make our contribution to improving the position of women in society. On the other hand, one of our goals for 2018 is to continue to promote discussion on the issue of feminism, where we will also organise the second edition of the “Week of the Religious Debat”. We also aim to start working with high school students for gender roles in society”, they are complete. /Periscopi/
