Heart transplant may no longer apply within a decade, a leading cardiosurgeon has declared in his field.
Professor Stephen Westaby, from Oxford Hospital “John Radclife”, has made these comments on the 50th anniversary of the first heart transplantation in humans.
He pointed out that this method will be replaced by artificial pumps as well as pioneer stem cell therapy.
Westaby, who is the first surgeon to apply artificial heart in 2000, has said he is supportive of heart transplantation, yet through this operation only one percent of patients can be treated.
“I think that within ten years we will no longer see heart transplantation, except when patients have heart - borne injuries, which only a new heart can perform”
I believe that combination of heart pumps and stem cells has the potential to be a better alternative through which more people” said Westaby. /I jumped. tv/
