This decision is illegal because, based on the Civil Service Law, civil servants can increase wages only through a special law.
While MPs have been nominated as a criminal offence because it concerns the government cabinet's decision concerning their direct financial interest.
In the decision that has secured “Koha Ditore”, the salary has been raised for Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj. That month from January, 2950 euros will be paid, about 100 euros less than Kosovo President Hashim Thaci. The prime minister's gross salary so far has been 1550 euros. Thus Haradinaj, with the government's decision to lead, has raised nearly 100 percent of his salary.
But higher public officials' salary increases automatically bring growth to other sectors as well. Thus, salary increases will all judges and prosecutors in Kosovo. This, since in the Law on Court and Prosecutor's, their salary depending on the official's position is equivalent to that of public officials. Out of about 7m euros a year so far paid for the salaries of prosecutors and judges, Kosovo will now pay around 13m euros.
