New Year's Festival in New York

It's called the “Global Crossroad”. The Square Times Square in New York is the site for one of the biggest holidays of the year, marked with the dramatic landing of a crystal ball, while a crowd of nearly one million people celebrate the New Year. American Voice correspondent Evgeny Maslov prepared the material. Tradition is [...]
Tradition is more than a hundred years old. The first festival was held on December 31, 1907. A ball came down through the crowd. Now, it is impossible for New Yorkers and those who follow through the screen worldwide to imagine the New Year's threshold without the famous ball consisting of more than two and a half thousand crystal fragments and 32 thousand lights.
The first ball weighed just over 300 pounds [300 kg] and was 1.5m in size. Today, the ball is over 30 feet [3 m] in diameter and weighs more than five tons. Every year he has a special theme.
“This year, the crystal ball Waterford has the theme “Peace and Peace Gift”, which after a 2017 that was full of anger and difficulty, is a topic that we think really fits what we need as we get ready to welcome 2018-118x3>, says Timpkins, president of the Times Square Alliance.
The crystal parts of the ball are traditionally produced by Irish company Waterford. Firemen are in New York and are working to install them, based on drawings that illustrate this year's theme.
If you look closely, you can note details according to this year's theme. You can see butterflies combined like they're dancing together. This symbolizes us, as individuals, we as human beings to be the best version of ourselves at any time” says Tom Brenan, of Waterford Crystal Company.
Landing the ball at midnight is just part of the celebration. Over a million dollars are spent on the security and entertainment of New Year's activity, followed worldwide.
We have a beautiful program this year. At 6: 00 p.m., we will light and set up New Year's Ball Waterford Crystal at Times Square Square Square, and then we will have amazing musical performances”, says Jeff Strauss, of the Countdown Entainment Company.
In addition to a million tourists expected to watch New Year's Eve celebrations at Times Square Square Square, 175 million people will follow the television broadcast not only in the United States but worldwide while welcoming 2018. /voa
