The man who is opposing Vladimir Putn, Alexei Navajo, says he has gathered enough support to compete in the upcoming presidential election in Russia, while his supporters have organised gatherings in 20 cities across the country to get signatures.

Navajo, a vocal critic of the Kremlin, is not allowed to participate in the March 2018 elections because he was sentenced by the Russian court, but for that sentence he says was politically motivated.

Navalny may be a candidate if the sentence is withdrawn or given special rights.

At the rally held today in Moscow, Alexei Navally has described Russia's president, Vladimir Putin, as bad “president”.

Nearly 800 Navajo supporters have gathered to present formal support in a giant tent on the shore of a snow - covered river.

This support has also been observed by Russian Central Election Commission officials present at the rally.

Such gatherings have been held in 19 other cities in Russia, including the cities of St Petersburg, Vladivostok, Novosibirsk, Perm, Omsk, and Krasnoorsk.

Navajo said that by law, he needed 500 nominations in each of 20 cities across the country.

He later on the Twitter network wrote that he secured the necessary signatures and that “has become an official candidate nominated by activist groups and voters” and has thanked many supporters who have participated in his campaign in all regions of the country.
