Authorities of the Czech Republic have known Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, but once they have also recognised as capital of the future Palestinian state, AA reports.
The Republic of Czechia “even before reaching the peaceful agreement between Israel and Palestine recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel at the borders of 1967”, the country's Foreign Affairs Ministry announced.
Although the announcement emphasizes that Chekhia recognises Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state, this stance of official Prague is contrary to the official institutions of the European Union.
The Czech authorities' step follows the controversial U.S. decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. The European Union earlier voiced concern that this Washington step could jeopardise peaceful processes in the Middle East.
