Despite many calls, Albanians continue to seek asylum in the European Union states.
Eurostat reports that the number of Albanians has reached 5900 and is about asylum seekers for the first time registered in the respective states. These statistics have been recorded for the third three months of 2017, writes Emonitor.
During the third quarter of 2017, 164 300 people have generally sought asylum, records albinfo.ch.
This means that the number of asylum applicants registered in the first three quarters of 2017 remains about the levels registered in 2014 rather than the stream of 2015.
With 26 600 candidates for the first time between July and September 2017, Syrians have remained the main substatement of people seeking international protection in the EU member states, ahead of Iraqis 12 500 applicants for the first time, Afghans and Nigerians (both around 9 900), Eritreans 7 300 and Albanians 5 900.
