A ferry carrying 251 people aboard has been flooded in stormy seas on the east coast of the Philippines, coast guards report.
A spokesman said that a number of victims have been reported so far. Great waves are said to have caused the shipwreck.
Reports say local ships have already saved some of the passengers aboard the ship near Pollo Island.
Rescue ships and helicopters sent to the area have been hampered by bad weather, officials say.
A local emergency service official, Juanito Diaz, said the initial reports suggest that the ferry, which has not been named yet, “had suffered a great deal of crying, thus causing the overthrow”.
