In an exclusive interview for the “Anadolu”, T president ♫REB Mustafa Serdar Atateven said the installed wind energy capacity in Turkey will grow through ongoing projects and planned tenders that will be finalised by the end of December, reports “Hurriyet Daily News”, Periscopi broadcast.
The upcoming pre-licence tender for 2,130 megawatts (MW) will be offered over a five-day period starting on Monday, December 25th to help generate electricity at competitive prices for Turkish consumers, Ataseven said.
He explained the projects would last about three to four years.
“These projects are important, but Turkey can do much better”, he said, adding that Turkey could reach up to 7 Gigavat (GW) installed capacity by the end of the year.
He cautioned that investments should continue to overcome Turkey's wind energy potential, which he said was more than double the current installed capacity.
According to the Directorate General for Renewable Energy Studies, the energy-technology potential of the wind for Turkey is 48 GW, but currently only 11 GE share of the project is available.
Turkey has 11 GW share wind power in hand and has a national target of 20 GW of capacity installed by 2023, Atateven said.
The country's overall energy target for 2023 is 100 GW./Periscopi/
