Kosovo's prime minister said on Friday he was attending the trial with “large attention” following the “tragic event in Kumanovo in May 2015. ”
“Justice should be brought to its place, beginning to shed light on the event in all its dimensions. An international investigation would help shed light on the truth”, Haradinaj said.
Kosovo President Hashim Thaci supported Haradinaj's request, while Foreign Minister Behgjet Pacolli called for “internal consultations. ”
On Thursday, seven ethnic Albanians were sentenced to life imprisonment, while another 26 received a sentence ranging from 12 to 40 years each. Four were released because of lack of evidence.
The convicts were accused of committing terrorist acts when they clashed with Macedonian special police in Kumanovo in 2015, killing eight officers.
Later Thursday, several Macedonian flags were burned in Gjilan and Skopje./Periscopi/
