Russia's Law on Prevention of Extremist Activity, signed by President Putin in November 2015, effectively bans books that have extremist content, reports “Anonymous”, Periscope broadcast.
Commenting on the decision immediately after it was issued, David A. Semonian, international spokesman for Jehovah's Witnesses at their World Staff in New York, says:
It is impossible to understand how a court can justify the decision to stop the Bible. It is absurd that a court outlawed the translation of the Holy New Bible, a Bible respected by scholars worldwide, which has not only been distributed into hundreds of millions of copies but also translated into over 150 languages: How far Russia's resistance to religious freedom will go. Surely we hope that respect for sacred texts will prevail when we follow this case in appeal. ”
According to Willy Fautré, Belgium-based director and co-founder of human rights without borders: “Any translation of any other historical sacred book ʹthe Koran of Muslims, Tanachhi of Jews and Cangyur of Buddhists can now be declared illegal in Russia, and any sacred book of any other religion is already lynched by state censorship in Russia. ”/Periscopi/
