UN report: Albania first country in the world to use cocaine

While public debate focuses on Albania as a country of cannabis production or as a transit of cocaine and heroin, no one has dealt with the disturbing fact of how much drugs are consumed in the country. Thus, quite unexpectedly, a United Nations report reveals that Albania holds first place in the world for cocaine consumption. [...]
The report was made by the United Nations Drug and Crime Agency. According to this report, which is based on 2014 data, it ranks Albania first with 2. 5 percent of the population consume it.
This report is based on polls made to people of the age group between 15 and 64. On a map of data published by the United Nations, it turns out that Albania has left behind highly developed countries like the United States of America, with 2.3 percent of the consumer population, or Great Britain ranked third.
Although considered one of the most expensive drugs, this has not prevented Albanians from being the biggest cocaine users in the world. The report also notes that there are older persons who are the biggest cocaine users, while younger.
The figures are also compared to government data from 2006, where only 0.78 percent of the population resulted in cocaine users in Albania, and within eight years the number of users has multiplied.
In surveys made to groups between 15 and 16 years of age, 3 percent of respondents result, a figure sometimes smaller than many other countries in Europe or beyond. This age group is also prone to synthetic drugs and is cheaper as a kakuk but even more harmful.
If Albania is in first place for cocaine, the opposite is due to the use of cannabis. Although we are considered a productive country and this drug is widespread, Albanians are not among the biggest consumers.
For the use of cannabis, Albania has a 5.6 prevalence, which is generally lower than much of Western European countries, but higher in the region. The record in Europe keeps Czechia at 11.4%, followed by France with 11.1%, Italy and Spain at 9.2%, the Netherlands at 8%. In the world, the biggest users of hashish are in the United States of America, with annual prevales of 16.5% and Canada at 14.3%.
The United Nations report also reflected information regarding the government's fight against drugs. It stands out that in recent years there is a significant increase in the amount of drugs caught. In 2014, 6870 pounds, 26. 4 kilos of cocaine and 55. 3 kilos of heroin. In the course of the year before 2013, drug seizures have been negligible.
