Kosovo Assembly MP Ilir Deda has clarified for “Ineksonline” The procedures followed by the European Union, for Kosovo to give the green light for visas.

According to the Deda, who is a member of the Commission for European Integration, if the demarcation is ratified within 2018, then the European Council would make a decision in June 2019 on visas.

The next two years, we are clear what has remained unfulfilled in meeting the last criteria for visa liberalisation, but Kosovo does not understand that circumstances in Europe are changing and we do not have time. If we had approved the demarcation in January, it is minimum 3 months that the European Parliament needs to push the issue of liberalisation forward, then it must go to the European Commission, and that is to hand it over to the European Council and they make the decision in June”, Deda has clarified.

He has said that European Parliament elections will be held in 2019 and a new European Commission will be formed. Given that, Kosovo needs to rush into concluding the border line agreement with Montenegro, which is the criterion for visas.

Deda has declared that after the November 19th runoff, political parties must sit down to discuss how they will act in terms of demarcation.

“in 2019 is the new European Parliament elections, which will result in a new European Commission. The current European Commission, which expires the deadline in 2019, is pro-visa liberalisation for Kosovo, but does not make the Commission decision, member states take. It means 2018 is the last train for us to have visas. What is necessary is for political parties immediately after the runoff on November 19th to launch communication between themselves about demarcation”, Deda has said of “Indexline”

He has added that next week, before the Commission for European Integration, the chairman of the Commission for Marking the Border Line with Montenegro, speed-up Bulqi.

According to him, this report will help to understand when the demarcation epilog will be made.
