Early measures taken Saturday came after the Catalan parliament voted to declare independence Friday, reports “BBC”, report Periscope.
Earlier, Spain's interior ministry claimed responsibility for Catalonia police following the dismissal of high Catalan officials.
On Friday, Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy announced the dissolution of the regional parliament and the dismissal of the Catalan leader, as well as called for immediate local elections.
The demonstrations for and against independence continued overnight.
A rally is expected Saturday in Madrid with the motto “for the unification of Spain and constitution”.
The crisis began when Catalan leaders held an independent referendum, rejecting a Constitutional Court decision that had declared it illegal.
The Catalan government said that out of 43% of potential voters who participated, 90% favour independence./Periscopi/
