The law on personal data protection protects Kosovo citizens from privacy violations. But the privacy of citizens is not always respected.
The director of the Department for Public Relations at the Agency for Personal Data Protection for Indexline has said that during the January-October period of this year, 46 people have complained. Of these various complaints, two have been for illegal processing of biometric characteristics.
“over the January period October 2017, the agency has accepted a total of 46 complaints, which, in one form or another, relate to privacy violations. The Anques, which are addressed to the Agency by citizens, are mainly of nature related to alleged violations of the Law's provisions for the Protection of Personal Data, and here are in violation of illegal personal data processing, violations of camera surveillance, unnecessary processing of biometric data, exceeded data storage terms, direct marketing, privacy violations in social networks, disrespect of the right to access to subject data, etc. During this year, the agency has accepted 2 complaints about alleged violations of illegal processing of biometric characteristics” has said Jeton Arifi.
And the biggest violations of citizens' privacy are in the private sector, writes Indexline.
“From January to October 2017, the private sector reported the largest number of violations (28s), while the public sector (state institutions) has accepted 18 complaints” has further said Arifi.
Arifi has said that not often come to the agency complaints about disregarding requests for access to public documents, but that the Agency is not mandated so I can't even investigate these types of complaints.
He has also informed that the Law on Access to Public Documents is in completion and that monitoring the implementation of the same will be given to the Agency after the changes.
Currently, both laws ( The LMDHP and LQDP are being changed into packages and will enter into force immediately after complete changes.
