Kosovars lose hopes for EU membership

While European integration and EU membership -- 90% of the population in Kosovo -- see it as a good thing, they mostly trust the Ombudsman, resulting from the Balkan Barometry research. Regional Co-operation Council (RCC), for the third year in a row, has published the Balkan Barometer, an annual research into public and business opinion in Balkan states: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Montenegro, Macedonia and Serbia. There are 8,000 citizens and 1600 companies involved in this edition.
The 2017 Balkan Barometer provides collected and analysed data in a series ofmatic areas and presents the current perception of the aspirations and expectations of the Southeast European business community for life, the labour market, socio-economic and political trends, and European integration.
In the question of how much you trust listed institutions (trials and justice system, parliament, the government, Ombudsperson, audience), for the purpose of research, 59% of Kosovo's respondents have indicated they have confidence in the Ombudsman's institution, which ranks highest in comparison with the institutions listed in the region, for which the credibility is expressed less than half the population (see: Balkan Barometer 2017/ Public Opinion Survey,q. 124 -125).
Also, residents from Kosovo have obviously expressed more confidence in the political independence of the Ombudsman's (even there), since. 126).
European integration and EU membership -- 90% of the population in Kosovo -- see it as a good thing. Also, Kosovo ranks highest in the importance of Roma integration for regional co-operation and EU entry.
Meanwhile, comparing this year's findings with those from the preliminary year, Baromet points out that while research in 2016 has revealed that 62% of the residents from Kosovo expect EU membership by 2020, 2017 research shows a sharp decline in expectations of only 37 % of the residents expect EU membership by 2020.
Among the main problems facing them, residents from Kosovo stress more corruption, unemployment and the economic situation.
Otherwise, Baromet emphasises that there is an economic recovery in some of the region's major economies, but unemployment as a whole remains distressing, as well as highlights growing concern over corruption. Meanwhile, in terms of economic performance, Barometri presents an optimistic view of the future.
Overall, in key findings in Southeast European countries, Barometri points out that residents' expectations exceed the satisphaction with the present and isolate the continuation of significant optimism in Kosovo.
