The conservative members of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's ruling coalition rejected statements by Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere that he was willing to discuss the possibility of presenting Muslim holidays.
During an election rally in the state of Downfire, Maizier said that “aty where there are many Muslims, why don't we consider even Muslim holidays?”
The Bahari-based party of Merkel's Christian Democratic Union, (CDU), withdrew from the suggestion.
The legacy of Christian Germany is not negotiable”, CSU senior politician Alexander Dobrendt told the newspaper Bild.
“Presenting Muslim holidays for us is undisputed” he said.
In the German population of about 4.4 million Muslims, most of them are of Turkish nationalism, living among the 80.6 million inhabitants.
