Some of the bloc's European-led members have long complained about what they describe as “aparteid food” in its ranks, so Brussels has come up with several proposals for increasing food quality in these countries. For European Consumer Protection Commissioner Vera Jourova, double standards on the quality of products influence citizens' trust in the common EU market. “I think we have a good plan”, she added at the meeting with leaders of Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, all four countries that have expressed concern over the fact that consumers there are offered lower quality items than those in Western union states. “Talk about a result-oriented plan aimed at hitting the unfair trade practice of selling goods at the same firm anymore, but with different quality”, the commissioner was quoted by “Reuters”. According to Slovak Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Gabriela Matecna, at the meeting, the need to create a unified and shared methodology testing of food and other products within the European Union was also discussed. In February, the Hungarian Food Safety Agency complained that chocolate sold in Hungary is not the same as being offered to Austrians. The Slovak Agency for Veterinary and Food Safety has also outlined changes in 14 of the 33 items imported to Slovakia from Austria. Consumer rights organisations in Eastern Europe have also found differences in dust washing clothes and cosmetics. While announcing that the European Commission will allocate onem euros for this purpose, its president Jean-Claude Juncker cited the law, saying there should be second-hand consumers.
