It is almost a decade since Kosovo political leaders have begun promising visa liberalisation with the European Union.
Sometimes it was even said that liberalisation is “month-to-month issue”. But all these hopes were overturned yesterday by President Thaci, who asked his counterpart Ilir Meta of Albania's citizenship for Kosovars. While political analysts say there is no freedom of movement through another state, writes today the newspaper “Voice”.
Hashim Thaci had twice been elected prime minister of Kosovo with one of the main promises in the election campaigns, except employment, that visa liberalisation with the European Union will be carried out very soon.
Such an Avaz of Thaci's promises had started in 2010, at that time as leader of The PDK, pledging that Kosovars would move freely towards the EU several months after the government's formation. So did other politicians.
Such were former Kosovo Prime Minister Isa Mustafa, former Foreign Affairs Minister Enver Hoxhaj, current Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj, as well as current MPJ Minister Behgjet Pacolli.
But despite not even seven years of visa pledges have yet to be carried out, Hashim Thaci offered a completely other plan to equip citizens with visas, asking Albania to grant Kosovo citizens citizenship so they can travel freely.
And that's what connoisseurs of political processes see as trying to absolve themselves before citizens for failing to fulfill promises made over the years. According to them, there is no freedom of movement through another country. /Sound/
