Chinese President Xi Jinping has announced plans to turn his country into the strongest nation in the world by 2050. David O'Brien of Nottingham University spoke of “Sputnik” explaining what might be the reason for the giant growth in Beijing's economy.
Sputnik: What is your view of the future development of China? What could possibly become the world's greatest superpower?
David O'Brien: It is important to remember his speech about China but also about the internationals. On the inside front, President Xi Yinging spent most of his time talking about the purpose of a major renewal of the Chinese nation ʹ a piece of the Chinese “=x1> As for the international issue, Xi's bold statement about China to become the world's largest superpower, may deal with some security.
Sputnik: Some analysts say China will not replace the US as a superpower. What must China do to establish itself as the most influential power in the world?
David O'Brien: There is a certain view in China among politicians, academics and policymakers that America is going through a certain period of decline and that China can replace. However, we must remember that China is obviously a development rather than a developed economy and that most of the country remains highly underdeveloped and quite poor. Also, there are many difficulties in China regarding border issues and corruption, Periscopi broadcasts.
Sputnik: Xi Jinping said China is facing excellent prospects for renewal. What did he mean by saying that?
David O'Brien: It is important to remember that China's history saw a long period of humiliation by Western powers, and now China is willing to overcome it and become a great and strong nation.
This is a very emotional issue for Chinese people, and thus, the renewal of China remains a key part of Xi Jinping's presidency.
Sputnik: What may be the reason for the development of China, often called miracles? How can such phenomenal growth be calculated?
David O'Brien: Well, it was certainly a miracle, and in some decrees it was unprecedented in human history. We've never seen any other country that has developed at such a high speed since 1978.
For now, although China is not as rich as American or European nations, it can be seen as a great political and economic power.
In this direction, Xi Jinping sets a special focus on ideology, which includes Marxism-lenism and certain elements of capitalism. This unique combination has resulted in success for the Chinese people, who strongly believe it is the Communist Party of China, which ensures the marvelous transformation of the country, which they believe will continue. /Periscopi/
