CEC, police and observers talk about plans for tomorrow

More than 1 million and 890 thousand eligible citizens will have the opportunity to vote Sunday, October 22nd, for mayoral candidates and municipal advisers.
A total of 899 local elections are polling stations with 2,505 seats, in 38 Kosovo municipalities.
Numerous local and international organisations have warned they will closely monitor the local election process.
The Central Election Commission has accredited about 33 thousand and 200 observers.
The number of candidates who have been certified by the Central Election Commission for the October 22nd local elections is 7,091 candidates, of them 6,887, are candidates for the Municipal Assembly, while 204 candidates are in the race for mayor.
Central Election Commission spokesman Valmir Elezi tells Radio Free Europe that in terms of the CEC, all preparations for election day have been closed.
The “on Saturday will become the arrangement for all locations, the voting booths will be placed, and all the recognition signs that should have a decision. Also, the distribution of sensitive election material and other material from the CEC's central depot to municipal commission deposits in 38 Kosovo municipalities will take place Saturday.
When, in the early hours of the next day, the distribution of these ballot papers will be made to the polling stations by the commission depots under the police service”, Elesi says.
He made it known that the CEC, except that it will host voters at the polls, will enable several other categories of society to vote through mobile teams.
The total number of these voters, according to Elez, is about 3,200.
The June 22nd elections will also be monitored by the coalition of local non-governmental organisations, “Democracy in Action”.
At a media conference, Ismet Kryeziu, from this organisation, suggests that the October 22nd election process will be monitored by about 3,000 observers from Democracy to Action.
“We call on political parties to ensure that tomorrow they are responsible for their sympathies, their voters, the committed people they have, whether in monitoring or managing and organising the elections, which are the commissionors, to be responsible for maintaining these standards for granting a more powerful legitimacy to the election process and to ensure that each vote that is voted by the citizens tomorrow is fair, each one is counted at”, says Kryziu.
The Kryeziu also seeks from the bodies responsible for maintaining the election process to ensure and provide security throughout the country's territory, including Serbian municipalities.
Meanwhile, the bodies responsible for organising and managing the elections have said they have made increased mobilizations to sanction any illegal action in the local election process.
Order authorities in Kosovo have announced the day before that they have made the necessary preparations for organising local elections.
“Establishing a peaceful and secure climate for all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as maintaining order, calming and public security in the country before, during and after the election process, is a primary one for Kosovo Police”, Kosovo Police Director General Shpend Maxhu said at a meeting regarding police engagement in implementing the police plan for the local <x2Zjet 2017x3>.
