Catalon Eurodeput: Serbia to be forced to recognise Kosovo, condition

In an exclusive interview given to the newspaper “Voice” Eurodeputet Catalonia, Josep Maria Tericabras, has said the Catalonian Parliament will today declare the country's independence by living the will of over 90 per cent of its citizens, who voted in Sunday's referendum. Aware of the depression and possible killings by the Spanish government, the Catalonian people have chosen their way to independence. At this point they seek protection and support from the international community, while from first recognitions they also expect from Kosovo and Great Britain.
When we are talking about Kosovo and recognitions will Serbia be forced to recognise Kosovo, or is that not necessary?
Terricabras: The recognition of Kosovo by Serbia will be absolutely and undoubtedly binding for Serbia before this becomes a full member of the European Union. Since the 2013 Brussels Agreement Serbia has acknowledged the legitimacy of Kosovo institutions. This is a very important step even though not enough because the inevitable condition to become a member of the European Union is to have clean democratic institutions and to respect people's decisions, including those of minorities. The Balkan war has been a very cruel experience. It takes time to heal all wounds and rebuild the bridges of dialogue. This requires hard work and patience.
Mr. Terricabras, the Kosovars won their country, the Catalonians, will they stop at their own ideal?
The independence movement has increased in the last decade. In 2008, when the constitutional court handed down its decision to depreciate autonomy for Catalonia, with what destroyed our autonomy status, then the independence movement grew rapidly. In the last seven years, more and more people have joined this movement every day. I can assure you that the extreme actions of Sunday, which was a terrible experience, have strengthened this movement. In fact, the actions of the Spanish government are helping us every day more. So to answer your question, no, the Catalonians will not stop. Maybe after many years, but Catalonia is now real.
