The Catalalian government has said the ballot boxes are ready and that a massive exit is provided in the elections, the BBC writes, followed by Klan Kosova.
Madrid has warned of the ban on voting, which it has considered illegal even through court.
Tens of national police, along with cars, have left their bases at the regional port in the city of Barcelona after officers decide to implement the decision.
Thousands of separatist supporters have occupied schools destined for the vote. Many of the parents are inside with their children, where they remain in buildings on Fridays when school is closed. They've been in sleeping bags and gymnastics banks.
Police insist that polling stations will not be allowed to open and that the staff inside will be taken out.
