Violence and verbal and physical attacks on journalists seem to have been a cause of unprecedented debate in Russia as well.
The editor of a popular opposition newspaper has declared he will arm his personnel with weapons and rubber bullets, due to recent attacks on his journalists.
“Noovaya newspaper” editor Dmitry Muratov announced the verdict, two days after Tatjana Fegenhower, a journalist at Russia's only independent station, was stabbed in Moscow.
Muratov has said the paper is buying rifles and rubber bullets for its journalists. It is even offering courses for their use and taking other security measures.
“I will protect by any means the editing and equip journalists with other protective means”, Muratov said.
