Tragedy in Uganda, 20 students lose their lives in a bus accident

At least 20 students and an adult person have lost their lives after a bus carrying students on a school trip has been crashed east of Uganda, local officials have announced.
Tens of other people, including members of the school staff, have been injured by the accident in the Kapchoorwa area on Thursday evening.
According to initial investigation, the bus had suffered a mechanical defect before the driver lost control of Chekwatt Hill, a road segment where several serious accidents have occurred earlier.
Police have made it known that the bus got off the road, hit a big rock beside it and was turned over, writes BBCI follow Periscope.
The bus was transporting students of the King David Junior School from Najje and was hit about 8:00 local time, to the village of Chekwatti, in the Kaowo area.
Uganda's Minister of Local Governance Balaam Atenteyi Barugahara, who was on the scene, announced that 20 children were among the victims and the founder and principal of the school, Tadeo Ssecade.
The images released by witnesses showed the bus severely damaged, while locals tried to help injured children.
Students were returning from a study visit, while local media reported that they had visited the Sypi Falls, a tourist area in Uganda.
Uganda records thousands of victims of traffic accidents each year, where high speed, amortized vehicles, and dangerous roads are considered a major cause.
This accident has restored concerns about school transport safety, following several serious bus accidents reported in the country over the past few weeks./ Periscope.
