Mexico defeats Ecuador and secures 1/8th place of World Cup final

Mexico has secured the qualifications at 1/8 of the 2026 World Cup final after defeating 2-0 Ecuador at the legendary Estadio Asteca Stadium.
In addition to the big victory of locals, the match was marked by an hour delay due to a storm in Mexico City. The meeting, originally scheduled to begin at 3: 00 p.m. local time, began an hour later, while FIFA had also considered the possibility of canceling a hydration vacation to compensate for lost time, but eventually gave up this idea.
Mexico started the match in a great way and dominated the first few minutes. Raul Jimenez had the first big chance with a head-to-head blow passing by the pillar, while 17-year-old Mora also approached the goal with an attempt from a difficult angle.
Ecuador reacted in the 18th minute, when Yeboah escaped the Mexican defense and hit the gate bar violently.
Mexican pressure paid off at 22nd minute. After a brilliant counterattack, Julian Quinones took the ball in his half, walked about 40m, and with a fantastic blow beat the opponent's goalie to score 1-0. Goli was confirmed after the VAR review, as the Mexican attacker was not in an out-of-play position, Telegrafi reports, broadcast. Periscope.
Only nine minutes later came the second goal. After a high pressure and the winning of the ball in the danger zone, Quinones and Raul Jimenez combined brilliantly, with the latter marking 2-0 with a powerful blow.
At the end of the first part, Yeboah forced Raul Rangel to make a fine reception, while Jimenez lost another chance with his head.
In the second part, Ecuador made two replacements and took more control of the ball but failed to create serious opportunities to restore the match to balance. The only dangerous attempt was a blow to Enner Valencia, which came out of a dead end anyway.
Mexico continued to be dangerous, and in the 67th minute Cesar Montes was near the third goal, but goalkeeper Hernan Gallindez reacted beautifully.
Until the end, Ecuador failed to create serious pressure on the local gate, and Mexico quietly managed the supremacy to ensure a great victory and qualifications among the world's 16 best nationals.
